Featured Five: Early Chapter Books (2)

Below you'll find five of my recently read Early Chapter book favorites.

Dory and the Real True Friend by Abby Hanlon
Available now from Penguin / Goodreads / Buy It

It's impossible not fall in love with this main character! I recommend nabbing book one, Dory Fantasmagory, as well - you'll want as much Dory as possible - but this one can stand on its own as well. In Real True Friend, Dory is starting the new school and is determined to make a new friend who likes her for who she really is.

Francine Poulet Meets the Ghost Raccoon by Kate DiCamillo
Available 8.25.15 from Candlewick / Goodreads / Buy It

Readers return to Deckawoo Drive to meet Francine Poulet, who is, without a doubt, “a genuine article.” Francine is the best Animal Control Officer around, but she may have finally met her match. When she comes face-to-face with a ghost raccoon, will Francine be able to put her fears and insecurities aside and hold on to her true self? Readers of all ages will be charmed by Francine Poulet’s big personality and endearing journey.

Piper Green and the Fairy Tree by Ellen Potter
Available now from Random House / Goodreads / Buy It

This new chapter book series from Ellen Potter is going to be a hit with readers who enjoy Junie B. Jones, Ivy and Bean, and Judy Moody. Piper Green and her family are memorable and hilarious, as are Piper's antics. I'm hoping Potter keeps this fantastic series going because its going to be one of my go-to recommendations! Book 2, Too Much Luck, is also available now.

Anna, Banana, and the Monkey in the Middle by Anica Mrose Rissi
Available now from Simon & Schuster / Goodreads / Buy It

This book, the follow-up to Anna, Banana, and the Friendship Split, is just as charming as the first. I love how Rissi portrays and handles the ups and downs of friendships; young readers with definitely identify with Anna's struggles and triumphs. I'm incredibly happy that there are already two more books scheduled for this great series!

Cakes in Space by Philip Reeve & Sarah McIntyre
Available now from Random House / Goodreads / Buy It

This is the second Not-So-Impossible Tale from Reeve and McIntyre and, if you haven't read them yet, you're seriously missing out. The stories are quirky and often funny and Sarah McIntyre's illustrations are absolutely perfect. I love to recommend these to readers who are ready for middle grade, but are intimidated by the amount of text in MG.

I'm always open to recommendations and feedback. Which Early Chapter books are your go-to recommendations? Any recent favorites?
